The Peloponnese
In old Greek and modern Πελοπόννησος, is "the island of Pelops". It extends on a surface of 21.549 km² and constitutes the southernmost part of continental Greece, from which it is separated, by the Corinth Gulf. In fact, it is a peninsula which is connected to the continent by the Isthmus of Corinth, although technically speaking; it became an island since the opening of the isthmus by the channel of Corinth in 1893. Two toll motorways, as well as expressways cross Peloponnese, which allow rallying Athens by crossing the channel of Corinth, as well as Northen Greece by the Bridge of Rion-Antirion, completed in 2004.
Argolis, the dawn of Greek civilization
Some of the most uniquely valuable archaeological sites of Greece can be found in this part of the Peloponnese peninsula. Le Péloponnèse
La péninsule du Péloponnèse, en grec ancien et moderne Πελοπόννησος/Pelopónisos, "l’île de Pélops", s'étend sur une superficie de 21549 km² et constitue la partie méridionale de la Grèce continentale, dont elle est séparée par le golfe de Corinthe au nord. En fait, il n'est une pénisule que grâce au fait qu'il ait été relié au continent par l'isthme de Corinthe, bien que techniquement parlant, il soit devenu une île depuis le percement de l'isthme par le canal de Corinthe en 1893. Deux autoroutes à péage, ainsi que des voies rapides traversent le Péloponnèse. Elle permettent de rallier Athènes, en traversant le canal de Corinthe à l'est par plusieurs ponts et le nord de la Grèce par le Pont Rion-Antirion qui franchit le détroit de Corinthe, achevé en 2004. La beauté naturelle des Péninsules vous entourera, mais les sites historiques vous éblouiront. Un des secteurs les plus populaires où il faut y faire un tour en visitant la Péloponnèse, est la ville d'Olympie, l’endroit où sont nés les Jeux Olympiques.
